An industry veteran has weighed in on a major development in the cryptocurrency markets, warning that the short-term CME futures market could be in for a shakeout as Bitcoin and Ethereum continue to struggle. “The gaps are going to be filled, whether that’s the CME or whether that’s the exchanges that are going to fill them,” says Peter DeMayo, a trader and author of two books on trading. “It will all get filled. But it’s going to take time.”
The CME Group Inc. (CME) futures contract for bitcoin, ether (ETH) and Litecoin (LTC) is currently trading at $25,000, $1,000 and $4,000, respectively. This comes after the CME announced they will offer bitcoin futures in December, accepting trading applications on Oct. 4. This means that the market is somewhat saturated with products for the cryptocurrency.
